The United States in the 1890s were full of new immigrants from all over Europe looking to get jobs because the Industrial Revolution was well-underway. Although because of the boat loads of new immigrants, the United States needed to devise a way to let immigrants in without overcrowding their cities. Immigrants also began to get hired a lot more than Americans because they worked for longer hours and for less money.
