The Great Depression was between the years 1929 and 1939. It was one of America's worst tragedies where the stock market crashed and the economy sunk. Most Americans became poor and needed to sacrifice a lot of things.

- Moving from a good house to a little apartment
- Only owning one pair of socks and drying them in the oven
- Kids sleep together in the kitchen
- Not paying bills which leads to electric and heat being shut off
- Giving breakfast to the kids and rationing food
- Not being able to pay for milk so they add water to milk
- Sending children to relatives
- Fighting while injured and covering injuries to get jobs
